Partner Organizations
The amazing partnerships are a culmination of the community energy focused on feeding those in need. The community fridge is not a new concept, but it is new to Council Bluffs, IA. Depending on who you talk to, the origin story might be a little different, but it was a culmination of civic engagement from multiple people who found their way to each other creating a beautiful and meaningful collaboration with a common goal to feed and support the food insecure in our community. We all need each other, and by joining hands, we have created a beautiful partnership.
Featured Partners
We are forever grateful for those partners who are hosting the community fridges and they will be telling their stories as they start operations, but we can’t forget to recognize those organizations that are the wheels on the bus driving the ongoing care and feeding of the individual fridges. Here is a list of those partners and their stories:
Saving Grace
They are a 501c3 that operates out of Omaha, supporting community fridges there. They were the initial glue that brought those in search of a solution together and CB Fridges was born. Saving Grace has also supplied most of the CB locations with the shed and fridge while also operating food rescue and delivery to CB’s fridges once a week.
Local Crow Indivisible
Local Crow operates as a 501c4 through the national Indivisible organization. The goals and mission for Indivisible is to build community where every you’re at, and build active movements toward positive changes for all members of society.
Timothy Lutheran Church
Timothy Lutheran Church has built a reputation in the community as a leader when it comes to giving back to those in need. They have established events to support moms, food insecure, and providing guidance for those who need anything. They don’t just talk about it, they ACT.
HSAC
Health Services Advisory Council’s mission is to connect people and build community for the good of all. They bring the community together in support of building a stronger environment and resources available to the community for everyone. They have been a key partner with CB Fridges bringing valuable resources to the table to build to necessary relationships that are helping make CB Fridges strong.
Iowa STate Extension
The partners at the local chapter of the IA State Extension office have guided the community fridges toward resources that have aided and advised on food safety and other considerations in building the CB Fridges operations.
